The tragic events at the Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in British Columbia have shocked and saddened all of us. The Calgary Board of Education sends our thoughts and condolences to the school, community, and all those impacted by this event. Schools are part of the broader community, and we recognize the deep impact this tragedy has had. As educators, we share in the community’s sorrow and extend our sympathy and support to all those affected.
An event such as this may affect individuals in different ways, and it is important to seek support when needed. Students are encouraged to speak with their family members about their feelings and to lean on trusted support as they process the news about this incident.

School Council Meeting
Thank you to those parents who attended our school council meeting on Monday evening. Our Administration team presented with parents around our school engagement process for planning and budgeting. Our school engagement presentation has been posted to our school website, and the results of the survey will be shared in April. We thank you for your feedback and will collect the data as we slowly move towards planning for next year.
Pink Shirt Day
We welcome all students to wear a pink shirt to school on February 25. Pink shirt day encourages wearing pink to promote kindness, inclusivity, and solidarity, originating in 2007 when Nova Scotia students supported a peer bullied for wearing pink.
Valentines Day
Thank you to our leadership students who supported all students at Midnapore School today with caring and kindness. Each student had an opportunity to share a kind message to a friend, teacher or loved on in their life. At Midnapore School we continue to ensure all students are supported, welcomed and cared for. This leadership project was a caring gesture for all.
Lunar New Year
We are excited to share that Lunar New Year is quickly approaching, and it’s time to celebrate the Year of the Horse! In 2026, Chinese New Year (Lunar New Year) falls on Tuesday, February 17. This date marks the start of the Year of the Fire Horse, which lasts until February 5, 2027.
Students in our Mandarin Program have been working very hard to prepare a special day of dancing, cultural songs, and events to share with our community. We are pleased to invite Mandarin Program families to attend our Lunar New Year celebration show on February 26 at 1:00 p.m. at Midnapore School.
On the same day, our students will also be performing for our English Program at 10:00 a.m. This performance is for our student population only.
