Dear Midnapore Families,  

It was a short but busy week around here.
 Staff and students enjoyed the wonderful weather and are gearing up for a full five-day week.  Although temperatures were above normal this week, we are expecting things to chill again next week.  Staff will ensure students are dressed appropriately before going outside and will review the outside expectations with students on Monday morning.  Please remind your child that they are to wear a jacket to school and that it must be used during recess.   

 Love Assembly 

We are excited for our upcoming sacred teaching assembly.  Our grade 3 team will be introducing our next teaching on Friday, March 1st at 10am.  We always enjoy our Grade 3 presentations and hope you’re able to join us.  

Field trip reminders 

A reminder to our Grade 3-4 parents that our Calgary Hitmen, Anti-bullying hockey game is on February 28th.  Also, a reminder to our Grade 2’s in Mrs. Yaunish’s class that they have Stampede school all next week.   

Mandarin Program Update  

This week our Mandarin kindergarten students had a cross-curricular learning week. We integrated 3D shapes with Chinese Lantern Festival and Indigenous knowledge and culture. Students talked about 元宵节 ‘Chinese Lantern Festival’ and made 汤圆 'sticky rice ball' (shape of sphere) with Playdoh and patterned bowls. We also designed and made our own tepee (shape of cone) after exploring the structure and decoration of it. Last but not least, students learned about sides and vertices of cubes by constructing a cube model with marshmallows and toothpicks.  

这个星期，中英双语项目幼儿园的小朋友们将3d立体图形与中国元宵节和加拿大原住民文化结合起来，探索了3d立体图形在生活中的应用。我们一起讨论了元宵节的习俗，并用彩泥制作了汤圆，学习了球体的特点。接着，我们学习了tepee的结构和图案，并设计和制作了我们自己的圆锥体tepee。最后，小朋友们使用棉花糖和牙签制作了一个正方体模型，学习并了解了正方体的特性。
