Midnapore Matters Jan. 29 - Feb. 2 | Report Cards, Kindergarten Registration, School Council Meeting
Dear Midnapore Families,
Thank you again to all who supported our community initiative by sending in jackets and blankets. Our grade 4’s continue to demonstrate courage throughout our school and were able to share their learnings with our local MLA and school board trustee today. It was an exciting day at Midnapore as we always love sharing the incredible work our students and teachers are doing in our classrooms.
Report Cards
By the end of January, your child’s report card will be available to view in your MyCBE account. Schools no longer provide a printed copy of the report card. The report card is one of the ways teachers communicate how your child is progressing in their learning. Teachers may also share learning progress through parent/teacher conferences, your child’s daily work and assignments, and other ongoing communication with you.
What to Expect in Your Child’s Report Card
CBE began implementing the new Alberta Education Curriculum:
Fall 2022 start:
- Mathematics (K-3)
- English Language Arts and Literature (K-3)
- Physical Education and Wellness (K-6)
Fall 2023 start:
- Mathematics (4-6)
- English Language Arts and Literature (4-6)
- French Language Arts and Literature (K-3)
- Science (K-3)
In the new curriculum, some things students learn may be new or may have previously been taught in higher grades. Students could be missing foundational pieces from previous grades, and their report card indicators might not be as high as before. This is expected when there is a new curriculum. It might take more than one school year to build these foundational skills. Even though each grade has its own curriculum, many ideas come up again each year, helping students to build on what they already know and do well.
Teachers continue to make learning interesting and inspiring and are adapting to students' needs during this transition. As always, if you have questions about your child's learning, please reach out to their teacher.
Kindergarten Report Cards
Kindergarten teachers will report progress to parents / legal guardians via January and June report cards.
- In January, progress in English Language Arts and Literature and Math will be communicated to parents / legal guardians via the report card. Other subject areas will be visible online but will be blank (these subjects will not appear on PDF versions).
- In June, progress in all discipline areas will be communicated to parents / legal guardians via the report card.
Kindergarten Registration Is Now Open
2024-2025 Kindergarten registration opened on January 15, 2024. Kindergarten students must be 5 years by December 31, 2024. At least one legal guardian must reside in the community of Midnapore unless you are interested in our Mandarin program. All registration must be completed online via your MyCBE account for parents with children in the CBE and via School Engage for new families to the CBE.

Virtual Link - School Council Meeting
We are excited to welcome back our amazing school council. We will be hosting our next meeting on Monday, January 29 at Midnapore School. We will once again be hosting a hybrid model where parents can attend virtually or in-person. Doors will open at 6PM and we will begin our meeting at 6:30pm. Our Grade 3 & 4 Teachers will be providing some updates around learning that is occurring within their classrooms. We are hopeful you’re able to attend. An online link will be shared closer to the date.
The school council is planning a casino wrap up session at 5:45 before the school council meeting on January 29 in the Learning Commons. Please join us whether you volunteered or not. We would appreciate your feedback if you had a minute to complete the survey below, which will also help determine what kind of food everyone would like for the school council meeting. Thank you!
