Dear Midnapore Families,

We are excited to share the many exciting activities that took place this week and look forward to all our upcoming events.  Please read the below as there are many upcoming events at Midnapore School.

Assembly

Our Learning Community would like to thank our Grade 2 students for such an engaging assembly where they shared many important messages.  This learning celebration allowed us to focus on our first Sacred teaching of Courage.  As a collective group we will be supporting our local veterans by collecting food items over the next month.

Veterans Food Bank

Until November 22, 2024, the Grade 2 Team will be collecting donations of non-perishable food items, as well as other home care items for the Veteran Food Bank of Alberta. We ask that all items donated be new, and unopened.

The Veterans Food Bank of Alberta (VFBA) supports veterans who’ve served in all branches of the Canadian Armed Forces and Reserves, as well as first responders.

Suggested items include- canned meats, brown sugar, bread yeast, flour, coffee, unscented body wash, dishwasher soap/pods, all purpose cleaner, granola bars, juice boxes, pasta, cooking oil, rice, canned fish, etc.

Alien In-line Residency

Our staff would like to thank our parent council for supporting our upcoming residency which will begin on Monday, October 28.  All students will have multiple opportunities to participate in this residency during the designated Physical Education class. Skates and helmets will be provided by our residency, but you are able to bring your own helmet if you wish to.  If you would like to volunteer and have your police clearance, please contact your child’s teacher.

Please note our school's immunization dates are:

  • Grade 1:  Feb 20/2025
  • Grade 6: Nov 4/2024 & May 8/2025

Mandarin Team Update

In this week's assembly, the Grade 2 students shared their learning about the Bear and Courage. Connecting to the Seven Sacred Teachings, the bear represents courage and resilience. Through sharing the song “Eye of the Tiger”, the Grade 2s invited others to reflect on their experiences and think about what courage and resilience mean to them. Through songs, stories and sharing, the student have deepened their understanding and connections to the land.

Grade 3-6 Choir (Practice Slides)

The Midnapore School choir members are doing a wonderful job learning 2 pieces for upcoming assemblies. If they would like to practice their songs between Thursday rehearsals, feel free to visit the following link:

Choir Practice Slides (Students can access the accompaniment audio by clicking on the audio icon on the first slide of each song –  the audio should continue when slides change)

School Pictures Are Ready!

To order, log in to your account on mylifetouch.ca or create an account using your student's student ID number. Paper proofs will also be sent to your home in the near future. All families can also log on and order a free digital Pictures2Protect card. Thank you!

Fees

Please be aware that Fees (Lunchroom, School Supply Fees, etc) are now posted.

Mabel's Labels Holiday Products have arrived! From now until Oct. 31 all holiday products are 10% off! It's a great way for your supporters to get ready for the holiday season (it will be here before we know it!). So share this with your supporters and watch your funds grow! Sale ends Oct. 31!

Field Trip Fees

Please note that all field trip fees are due on or preferably before the field trip date.

Fee Waiver

If you are thinking of applying for a waiver that would waive your lunchroom/transportation/school supply fees, please apply now rather than wait. Fee collection normally starts in February for the school year. If you have a waiver then this will avoid any collection on your account.  If you need assistance with this, please give us a call at the office. You can apply for this waiver on your MyCBE account under the heading of Fees

Demographic Verification Form

Is on your MyCBE account and we ask that you please fill this out so that we can keep your child’s information up to date at all times.  Thank you.

Volunteering

Please go to your MyCBE account and get your police clearance done. Once you are cleared this is good for five years. This is in addition to the Annual Volunteer Form that is required by the CBE every year. Your Police clearance will take on average 2 to 6 weeks to complete.

Halloween Dance

We are excited to share that we will once again be hosting a school Halloween celebration at Midnapore School.  This event will be supported by our Grade 6 students and will act as a fundraiser for their end of year camp trip.  There are no expectations for cost but if parents would like to donate $2 to our Grade 6 students it will help them reach their goal.  We will also be hosting a fun snack of Popcorn on this day so no need to send your child with any treats.  Please log in to your Healthy Hunger account to purchase your child a fun snack.

We encourage students to wear a costume if they are comfortable but discourage families from picking a costume where a mask is required.  Our activity in the afternoon requires movement and students should not have limited visibility.  We also ask that students bring their costumes in a bag.  We will give all the students time in the afternoon to dress up.

Great Pumpkin Event

It is time once again for THE GREAT PUMPKIN EVENT at Midnapore School! Families are invited to carve pumpkins at home and bring them into the school on Tuesday and Wednesday next week. The school community will vote on their favorites for prizes and bragging rights. We hope to see your creativity come through this year!
