Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!

This week we celebrated Mid-Autumn Festival here at Midnapore School through stories, poems, food and art. Students learned the legend of the fairy on the moon and created moon shadow art and lanterns. Mid-Autumn Festival is also celebrated through eating mooncakes and moon gazing! The circular shape of mooncakes symbolizes reunion of families and friends. Students had so much fun making mooncake molds with salt dough. Through rich class conversations and hands-on activities, we have learned so much about this important celebration in Chinese culture. Hope you had a good time with your family and happy moon gazing!

Meet the Teacher Night & Family Social– Thursday Sept 26, 4:00-6:00 PM

We are excited to share that in with partnership with our School Council & Parent Association, we are looking to host a meet the parent night on the evening of September 26th that includes food trucks, opportunities to engage in play and connect with families in our community, and a chance to visit the classroom and meet the teacher. Please come at any time between 4:00-6:00 to visit your child’s classrooms and connect with their teachers to kick off the new school year. We are looking forward to seeing everybody here this Thursday!

Food Trucks on Sept 26

When you come to meet your child's teacher, the School Council is planning for food trucks to be at the school in the hopes it helps with the dinner rush! Grab a bite, stay to visit with one another and give your kids some time on the playground or gaga ball pit. 10% of our food purchases go to our school council and towards items we purchase for student learning.

Upcoming Fees on your MyCBE Account

Please note that all field trip fees MUST be paid before or on the day of your child’s field trip. This is a change from last year when you could pay your fees after the designated date. If you do not pay in time, you will then have to come into the school and pay by debit/credit card, cash or cheque directly in our office. We are trying to avoid this situation, so we ask you to please check your MyCBE account and pay for your child’s field trip as soon as possible.  Thank you.

Grade 3-6 Choir

Does your child love to sing? Students in grades 3, 4, 5, and 6 are invited to join our school choir! Our first meeting will be on Thursday, September 26 at 11:30, where interested singers are welcome to “try it out” and see if they would like to commit to weekly Thursday practices over the lunch hour. Choir members will bring their lunches to the music room and will have a chance to eat before they rehearse. Please feel free to email Mrs. Morin at esmorin@cbe.ab.ca with any questions.

School Paint Job

We have exciting news... Midnapore School is getting a makeover! The hallways, learning commons, gymnasium and office area will all be getting a fresh paint job to brighten up our space. Painters will come in over the next 3 weeks to prime the walls, and a will come back to paint later this year. They will be coming in the evenings when students are not in school to ensure they do not disrupt any of the important learning going on.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

There is no school on September 30 in honor of Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Midnapore School will be honoring this day on Thursday, September 26 by doing a School-Wide walking field trip to Fish Creek Park. We will be reading the book With Our Orange Hearts by Phyllis Webstad and students will be writing reflections based on personalized questions created from the four areas of the Medicine Wheel: Mind, Body, Spirit, Heart. We are encouraging all students and staff to wear their orange shirts on September 26th. Please reach out to your child’s teachers if you are interested in volunteering for this event.

Terry Fox Run and Assembly

We wanted to congratulate all of our students and teachers for participating in our annual Terry Fox Run on September 19. We also wanted to give a huge thank you to Mrs. Morin, our music teacher, for organizing such a great assembly. Students were inspired singing the Terry Fox version of Fight Song and it motivated them to get up and make a difference in our world!

As a school, we also raised over $400. Amazing work Midnapore School!
