Dear Midnapore Families,

Thank you to all who took part in the many learning events this week.  We were thrilled to have so many families in our building over the past few days, volunteering, going for walks to Fish Creek and for our Open house.  Our staff continue to share how incredible our school council and parenting community are and how grateful we are to have an opportunity to work with you and your child.  Thank you!

Orange Shirt Day

Students and staff participated in a land-based activity in alignment with messages shared from our school reading of, “With our Orange hearts.” Students spent the week reflecting on the significance behind Orange Shirt Day and created their own journey and path towards resiliency.  This activity is another step forward towards our school commitment towards Truth and Reconciliation.

Mandarin Team Update

To recognize our National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, students were given the opportunity to connect with nature by walking to Fish Creek Park, where they learned more about Indigenous Ways of Knowing. First, students learned about the four areas of the Medicine Wheel: spirit, heart, body and mind. Students learned that the Medicine Wheel can teach us about the four directions, the four seasons, the four elements, the four sacred medicines, and the four stages of life. The medicine wheel can be used to reflect on our personal development each day, as well as throughout our lives, as circles never end. Using this lens, students discussed and represented in their visual journals how they can keep their spirits, hearts, bodies and minds healthy and what strategies can be used to maintain a life balance. As a school, we all came together and acknowledged this important day by wearing our orange shirts, listening to the story, “With Our Orange Hearts” by Phyllis Webstad, and practicing empathy and gratitude for our family, friends and community.

Paint at Midnapore School

Thank you to those who were able to attend our Open house last evening.  You may have noticed that we are in the early stages of our school paint job.  We will keep you posted as this work continues and look forward to the product.

We are thrilled to welcome Mike Mcmahon to our building again as he will be filling in for Meagan as she is away for the next two weeks.  Mike has experience as a Principal, System Principal and Assistant Principal and will be a welcome addition to our school over the next few weeks.  Welcome, Mike!
