Dear Midnapore Families, it was a great week at Midnapore School.  We apologize in advance for the long week ahead but there is a lot of important and upcoming information for us to share with you 😊

Mandarin Program

Welcome back! The new school year has begun, and we’ve already had a blast in Ms. Fan’s kindergarten class! This week, we learned about our school and classroom rules, practiced greetings in both Mandarin and English, and had fun drawing circles and lines. We even drew self-portraits! In math, we read The Very Hungry Caterpillar and used finger painting to make dots that helped us learn the numbers 1 to 5. The best part? We made lots of new friends and played so many fun games! We can’t wait for all the exciting learning adventures ahead this year!

Terry Fox at Midnapore School

We are excited to announce that our school community will be participating in our annual Terry Fox run.  We will be gathering as a school community on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 10:30am in the gym.  Shortly after we will be participating in our school-wide run.  Please make sure your child has comfortable clothing and a water bottle for this day.  As a school community we will be collecting toonies for Terry.  If you’re able to, please bring a toonie to school and we will be collecting to reach a school goal.

Energy Club

We are excited to bring the energy club back to Midnapore School.  Starting September 16, we will be opening doors at 7:30 am for those who would like to energize before instructional time.  We ask that you come as close to 7:30am as possible as we only have a short window for our staff to welcome students in this early.  We are also not able to offer an energy club on Fridays.

Designate a Meeting Place

It is very important to have a designated meeting spot for 2:30 pick-up times. All students in grades 1-6 will be dismissed from their exit doors and are to go immediately to the meeting spots that they have identified with their families. Please ensure you have not chosen a meeting place in the school parking lot as it is off-limits to parents and students. Kindergarten is the only age group where teachers will wait for a parent to arrive before dismissing students. All students have been taught in class that if they get to their meeting spot and there is no one there to pick them up after five minutes they are to come to the office through the front entrance of the school for help.

Label Everything

Every year we send thousands of dollars' worth of clothing and other lost items to charity that go unclaimed in our Lost and Found. Items found with your child(s) name labelled on them will be returned directly to them.  If you are missing an item, we also have a designated lost and found location for you and your child to check.

Lunch Supervision Registration – Deadline Sept. 30

All students remaining at school during the lunch hour MUST be registered for Lunch Supervision via your MyCBE account, Fees, Lunch Supervision.

School Council

We are excited for our first school council meeting for Midnapore School.  Our first meeting is an exciting one as we set the stage for the school year, prioritize our goals and appoint members of the council.  Please join us on September 9 at 6:30 pm through our online meeting so that we can plan our year and appoint new members.  Our other meetings will be a hybrid model where parents will have the option to be in-person or to attend online.  To join our meeting please login through the link below. We hope to see you all.

Fun Lunches and Fun Snacks

Here are the first Fun Lunches for this school year. (More will be added). You can order one at a time or all at once. If your child is in kindergarten, you will not be able to order for all dates. Healthy Hunger is a website where families can first register and then order healthy lunches and snacks for their children. Attached are the simple steps to get started. If you require assistance, then please do not hesitate to contact School Council at midnapore.parentcouncil@gmail.com and we'll be more than happy to assist you.

Open House September 26, 4-6 PM

We are excited to welcome all our Midnapore families to our September welcome back Open house.  Please come visit our learning space on September 26, between 4-6 PM. At this time, you will have the opportunity to tour our school, visit your child's classroom and enjoy the Calgary YYC food trucks.  We have requested 4 food trucks to join us for this evening so that families can enjoy some time together. Teachers will be booking 1-1 meetings on Friday, September 27 with those families who require a more detailed meeting and those who have IPP documents to review.
