Week Ahead Jan. 22-26 | Project Warmth, Report Cards, Fun Lunches, Staff Appreciation, Donut Fundraiser, Family Literacy Week
Dear Midnapore Families,
We hope you heard the news on how incredible our Assembly was yesterday. Our Grade 4’s introduced our next teaching and supported us with some wise words on how to demonstrate courage. Thank you to those who attended and to our Grade 4 staff and students who supported our school with these powerful messages.
Our Grade 4 Message to the Community
Midnapore School cares about our community. We will be collecting outerwear for “Project Warmth.” This is an organization that collects clean jackets, hats, scarves, mitts and blankets to help keep people around Calgary safe and warm. We can accept new or used items. Please help your parents to look through closets and see if there are any things that might not fit you or your family anymore. Please bring in those articles of clothing to Midnapore School so we can put a smile on the faces of families in need. We will collect items until January 31. Thank you for supporting our community.
Report Cards
Report cards will be available for online viewing through your MyCBE account on January 30. Report cards reflect summative (end) achievement of the learning outcomes taught and assessed during the first reporting period. If your child’s learning is supported through an IPP (Individual Program Plan), an updated hard copy of this will be sent home in February as the IPP and report card work in unison to share information related to your child’s learning and achievement.
If you are new to CBE or your child is new to CBE, here are some informative resources:

This is an important initiative which supports families in our community facing financial challenges.
Staff Appreciation
As part of staff appreciation, on the Fun Lunch order for March 14, you can choose to make a $2 or $5 contribution toward a staff lunch. All money collected will go to staff meals on March 21 during parent conferences.
Fundraising with Donuts
Our school council has generated another great fundraising idea to support funding for Midnapore School. Maverick’s Donut Company is supporting this initiative, and this fundraiser is open from January 22-February 10.

Translation:
In English language arts, we have been focusing on the reading power strategies of visualizing and connecting. Visualizing focuses on creating pictures in your mind as you read and connecting focuses on making connections between the text and yourself, other texts or to the world. Using these strategies can strengthen our comprehension when reading. (Contributed by Maya)
With CNY approaching, grade 2 students have been working on their performance at CNY concert. Through stories and multimedia, they are learning the cultural traditions of Lunar New Year, such as the lion dance, making jiaozi, firecrackers, and the symbolic meaning of fish in the CNY menu. This week in our art class, students learned to
sketch and paint with watercolor. They will present their amazing artwork titled “Fish” to wish everyone a peaceful and prosperous year of the Dragon.
