Week Ahead Oct. 2-6 | Orange Shirt Day, Terry Fox Run, Digital Citizenship, Autumn Festival
Dear Midnapore Families,
We would like to start off by thanking all parents for attending today’s assembly. As a school community, we honored and recognized National Orange shirt day. Students in Division one shared their writing samples on why Orange Shirt Day was important to them. Students in Division two shared their understandings of reconciliation and reflected on their personal actions, along with the steps they will take moving forward towards reconciliation. Our entire staff are proud of the hard work our students have done during National Truth and Reconciliation week. Moving forward we will be exploring the 7 Sacred teachings and how these values are grounded within our day to day actions and connected within the curriculum. We will be hosting monthly Orange shirt days to continue this work and to continue our work as a school community. Thank you, Midnapore School, and thank you to the parents and family members who came today.
We are also thrilled to inform our community that we reached all our goals for our Terry Fox Run. As a community we raised over $450. Thank you to those families who donated their funds and efforts to our Annual Terry Fox event. We also ran across Canada and raised awareness for Cancer research. As a school, we ran 5700Km in the month of September. This is an incredible accomplishment as a school and a sign of collective teamwork.
Digital Citizenship
Schools use system support to write a Digital Citizenship Plan that is unique to their own demographics and aligned with student and community needs. When teachers and students work in the digital space, it is important for them to understand what, how, where, and for what purpose personal information and data can be used, shared, and stored. Please view our Midnapore School Digital Citizenship Plan and review the goals with your child. It is important to note that all students are responsible for their actions when using CBE technology and that their password should not be shared with others.
No School tomorrow- Please be advised that there is no school tomorrow as it is a National Holiday. Have a wonderful long weekend.
Mid-Autumn Festival
Have you noticed in these past few days that the moon is getting brighter, more beautiful, and approaching the full moon? Yes, this year, the Mid-Autumn Festival (Moon Festival) falls on this Friday, September 29, which you might have also heard about in the news as the harvest moon on the same day. In Asian culture, it is one of the most significant festivals, representing family reunion, well-being, and happiness.
This week, Mandarin program students are celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival in their classes and participating in cultural activities. Grades 3 and 4 classes have been learning how to make Chinese mooncakes, specifically Snow-skin mooncakes. Students had a lot of fun making the dough, rolling the wraps, filling them with red bean paste, and placing them in molds to shape them. Even with the assistance of the molds, it still requires skill and a little bit of luck to remove the mooncakes from the molds without damaging their captivating appearance. It was so much fun, and there was a lot of laughter and joy during the mooncake-making process. At the end of the day, students took their creations home to share with their families. Big thanks to the parent volunteers who helped in class; without their assistance, we couldn't have done it.
We wish you all a fabulous Mid-Autumn Festival and a wonderful family gathering! Also, don't forget to indulge in some moon-gazing, as on that night, the moon will shine its brightest and appear at its most beautiful and roundest of the year!
