Week Ahead Oct. 23-27 | Assembly, School Council, Halloween, Fees, Illness, Mandarin Program

Happy Thursday (Friday), Midnapore Families, we had another busy week here at Midnapore School. Although we were presented with some rain, students were eventually able to get outside and enjoy the wonderful weather. Many classes were able to enjoy some land-based learning in Fish Creek and enjoyed a great walking field trip. Thank you to those parents who volunteered.

A reminder that there is no school tomorrow as our staff will be engaging in a professional learning session around the Science of Reading. We will see you on Monday morning.

School Assembly

We are excited to share that we will be introducing our first of the seven Sacred Teachings during our school assembly, next Friday. Our sharing celebration will begin at 8:45 am and will include perspectives on teaching respect. We will also share our school wide vision around the topic of respect and be participating in a community initiative to support our Veterans Food bank. Parents are invited to attend as we continue to support our journey and learning towards our CBE holistic lifelong framework.

School Council

We are excited to host our next School council meeting on Monday, October 23rd here at Midnapore School. We are once again offering a hybrid model where families may attend virtually using the link below. Doors will open at 6PM for a soft entry and a time for parents to connect. We will call the meeting to order at 6:30 pm.

Halloween

Students are invited to wear a costume at school on October 31. Costumes should be child friendly. Please do not send any prop weapons, food items, or treat bags to school. October 31 will be a regular learning day for students.

We are also encouraging families to participate in our Midnapore School Pumpkin carving festival. Students are asked to carve a pumpkin with their families and bring the pumpkins to school for the day. Students will bring the pumpkin home after school that day as well. We will put all the pumpkins on display and allow students a chance to display their pumpkins to the school.

Halloween Dance – October 31, 2023

We are excited to announce that we will be having a Halloween School dance on October 31. We will invite Division 1 (K, 1, 2, 3) students to attend the dance in the morning and Division 2 (Grades 4, 5, 6) students to attend in the afternoon. Our Halloween Dance will support fundraising for our Grade 6 classrooms who are raising money for Outdoor School. Donations ($2) will be accepted to attend the dance but are not mandatory as all students are invited.

Additionally, we have added a fun Healthy Hunger option (Kernels Popcorn) for students to purchase a fun snack on this exciting day. Your last day to purchase our Kernels Popcorn for Halloween day is midnight on October 25. Proceeds for this healthy hunger will go to supporting our Grade 6 students for their Outdoor School field trip in May. We will also have some fun glow sticks and healthy option concessions available for students to purchase if they choose. All proceeds will go to supporting our Grade 6 team.

As always, we welcome volunteers to our building for this fun and exciting day. If you have your police check completed and have done your annual volunteer form, we would love to have you support this event.

IMPORTANT - Unpaid Fees - Collections

Unpaid fees affect the school's revenue therefore, it is very important that all fees are paid on time. Outstanding fees for previous school years will be sent to collections in February 2024. To avoid this, please sign into your MyCBE account or visit the school with either a debit or credit card.

Student Illness

Just a friendly reminder, if your child is sick, please keep them at home until they are well enough to return to school.

Mandarin Program Update

This week, Ms. Fan's Grade 1 class learned to use different math strategies for simple addition problems within 20s. We used ten-frames, fingers, number-line, counting on method, and drawing pictures to solve addition questions. We played some new math games as well, for example: addition connect 4 game, 100 chart puzzle, math English and Mandarin bingo game.

For science, we went on a listening walk around the school, and we collected fall leaves to do a fun fall leaf art project.
